Projekt / SV: Hjälp mig på min projekt GTX!
« skrivet: december 11, 2009, 03:20:23  »
Sepnu is looking those for his GTX which is covered in this old magazine article. http://www.pukema.com/lehdet/242GTX16V_s1.html http://www.pukema.com/lehdet/242GTX16V_s2.html

He is the current owner of the car and he has begun restoring the car to it's former glory.

http://kuvablogi.com/blog/23400/1/

There was a Volvo-specialist/engine shop here in Finland back in the 80's and 90's called Autoengineering Järvinen which sold aluminium replacement parts to be installed in place of the rubber ones but the company is no more.. I would take the part to a skilled machinist/machine shop and get those bits made out of aluminium. :)

Similiar specs @ the drivetrain. (Like getrag box, BMW front diff, Ferguson transfer case etc...)

B200K has pistons with high "lumps" as stock. Not the dished ones. Those in the picture are the lower compression pistons.

Like I said Volvo dealers swapped different pistons to B2X0 series engines with high compression when the R-Sport kit was installed. Many were done here in Finland in the 80's for high compression NA 700-series by the dealer because of the taxing reasons. (Factory turbos had high taxes) Few 300-series were also installed with the turbo kit by the dealer, we owned one for many years. http://www.elisanet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GL/kone.jpg http://www.elisanet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GL/kone2.jpg That was a Volvo dealer installed turbo kit, B200K with swapped pistons to lower compression from the 10:1 which was too high for an 80's carb turbo. Same pistons as in the pic above.

Usually B200Ks were fitted with new pistons when the R-Sport turbo kit was installed. Our 360GL had pistons swapped to get lower compression. But of course it's worth to check because it might be with high compression pistons too.

You do wan't to keep the vacuum/pressure fuel regulator!

Linear fuel pressure regulator doesn't "enrichen" the mixture, it just keeps the fuel pressure in the fuel rail same level related to the pressure in the intake manifold.

For example you set 3bar fuel pressure when there's atmospheric pressure in the manifold. Then you put 1bar of boost in the manifold. Without the vacuum/pressure controlled regulator the pressure in the fuel rail is 2bar compared to the pressure in the manifold! And you don't want that to happen, there would be a huge drop in the injector flows and even MS can't compensate that quite well..

Of course fuel rail pressure is still 3bar compared to the outside atmospheric pressure but that doesn't mean anything. So to keep the constant 3bar pressure in the fuel rail under 1bar boost you'll need to add +1bar to fuel pressure too, so when compared to the outside atmospheric pressure it's 4bar in the fuel rail but the engine "sees" it as 3bar because of the 1bar pressure in the manifold..

MS can't adjust the fuel correctly if you don't have steady pressure in the fuel rail compared to the manifold pressure.

Of course in the NA cars it's a bit different thing but I would guess it would affect in a bad way if the fuel pressure is set 3bar in the atmospheric pressure and then comes -0.5bar in the manifold compared to the atmospheric pressure, again same thing happens as before but reversed, fuel pressure in the rail is 3.5bar compared to the intake manifold pressure.

Haha :D någon som har haft lite att göra :P men jag förstod inte riktigt hur dom arbetar endå...

That would be me. ;D There's hydraulic fluid inside (which smells like s*it, literally) which flows between the two chambers and dampens the vibration.

I have the same problem as you, the engine mounts are busted and engine sits way too low. I'm going to test what some people have done which is draining the mounts, then compressing them and filling the area between the top metal and the rubber part with polyurethane adhesive and letting it dry and after that filling the actual mount chambers with the same stuff (for example Marine grade Sikaflex) and letting it dry.

At first I was sceptical because it sounded a bit bodgery solution but when I filled couple mounts they became very rigid and don't flex much.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GLT/tuet.JPG

I haven't fitted those yet so I don't know how long they'll last but we'll see. If they don't last I'm going to fit something similiar as in the topic above.

Problem with the normal "sandwhich" type rubber mount's are that those are designed to be used in applications where the force is applied on to the mount and nothing is hanging from the mount. And if the sanwhich type mount would fail the engine would drop on the road. :P Maybe if one would weld a casing similiar as the stock mounts have it would work? Of course if the bolt goes through the rubber all the way then it will work because the bolt is supporting the engine and not the rubber.

Men funkar bra. http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GLT/mapfueler/

Sorry about my not-so-good Swedish, but I'll try my best.. :D

What kind of strut top mounts are those. Custom or are those just stock ones in terrible shape. ;D I mean those rubber bushings you have on the top of the strut where the shock absorber is bolted on. :P I can see two bolts on each one also.

That black box comes with the carburetted engines, it controls the fuel cut off with the Solex carb. When gas is lifted above certain RPM level (if I remember correctly, it was 1500rpm) the black box cuts the fuel (solenoid controlled) from the carb. That's why it's connected with Renix. (RPM signal) It was put there to make the motor braking to save fuel with carb engines too. :P

Kul med nya tag!

men spridare i metall? det har jag aldrig sett..

I think all LE/LU-Jetronic injectors in 300-series are metal ones, which are painted black. At least all I've seen. :P

I thought that those were plastic also, but when I got my injectors renovated it turned out those were metal.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GLT/suuttimet.JPG

Btw. I suggest that you spray at least some kind of clearcoat on those because I also didn't paint those first and surface rust came really quick, in few days.. Bare metal gets surface rust easily just from the moisture in the air.

Yeah driveshafts are thicker in cars with E/F engines. I found this out when I bought a new cv joint for our GL, but it didn't fit with GL's axle, because Löbro doesn't manufacture any other, but E/F model joints anymore. E/F model joints have bore diameter of 27.7mm as the GL and other models have two to three mm smaller diamenter, somewhere around 25mm. :) So E/F models have thicker driveshafts. Cv joint for E/F seemed to be a bit stronger looking also.

Yeah that is modified 1030/1031 diff with LSD and 4.88 gearing.

It's from this car: http://www.nettiauto.com/viewVehicle.php?id_car=990564 That's a former Group-A 360 with full racing history. :P Now it's a Group-F car. Though the body has been changed (previously it had MK1 body if I remember correctly) but the plates and other stuff are original.

He also has a Getrag race box to go with it and a suitable propshaft and Porsche half shafts. 1700€ whole package.. Not so cheap but then again parts like that, modified to fit in 300-series, don't come around at every corner. :P

What is interesting, is that those have extra coil included for stiffening in the back:

I got my front Konis sometime ago.. :P Final cost was ~50 euros including shipping from Germany. Start price at Ebay was 9.90€ but someone from Germany tried to outbid me first.. ;D Well.. not so high price for adjustable Konis. I paid more for my rear Konis. :P

And then the pics of course http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GLT/2006/koni/

Now I just have to get those installed.. :P

How is they adjustable and where is the "screw" for adjustments?
Is this damper made only for Volvo 300 in this condition?
And do you know if the workinglength is the same as original or shorter?

It's made for 300-series so it will fit. ;) Those are not available from Koni anymore though.. Well if you order something like 25 kits then you can get new custom ones but.. :P They use those custom ordered ones in V360CUP, Wielhoven ( http://www.wielhoven.com/start.htm ) can supply new ones but you have to order many sets..

Those what I bought are NOS (new on stock) parts. Koni part number is 86-2182.

Adjustment is made by pushing the piston all way to the bottom and then you turn piston left untill you feel that adjusting nut has engaged. Then you can turn it left or right and adjust it as you want. Adjustment affects only to rebound.

At last summer I installed my rear Konis which I bought.

http://koti.mbnet.fi/mtn/images/autot/GLT/2005/iskari4.jpg

Those were also NOS parts for 300-series which someone was selling from some old stock. Those have worked perfectly. Rear is much stiffer than with my old Sachs gas shocks.

I don't  know the working length (haven't measured yet) but I think those are guaranteed to work right at least with 40mm lowering, might have been even more.. I don't remember correctly, but they would work with lowering too. I might order some Spax front springs for front to put in with those and some polyurethane bushings for anti roll bar. But all depends if I got enough money as I'm on kinda tight budget right now.. ;D Everything is expensive for a student.. :P

Ok..i havent heard that ;)

This is what the law text says:

1. Muutoskatsastuksessa saadaan hyväksyä auton alustan korkeuden muuttaminen jousia säätämällä, takomalla tai vaihtamalla taikka asentamalla jousen ja akselin väliin tai jousen korin puoleiseen kiinnityspisteeseen asianmukaiset korotus- tai madalluskappaleet.

So as long those blocks are properly built (material is strong enough, good bolts etc...) there shouldn't be any problems. :P

This is a good site when info about legal stuff of building cars is needed http://www.finlex.fi/fi/laki/alkup/1998/19980779

19
Those blocks are illegal in Finland >:(

There shouldn't be any law which would make them illegal. If some MOT inspector had said that, he is wrong.. We have lowering blocks in our GL and those have been in there for over 15 years and there has never been any problem in the MOT.

There's one for sale in here. :P

http://www.nettiauto.com/viewVehicle.php?id_car=383466

Translation

It is a former Group A car, now it has been used in F-Group rallies. Translation:

Rare rally car with full racing history. Built for dealer at 80's. Has been even driven at "Jyväskylän Suurajot" (nowadays in WRC it's called "Neste Rally Finland") as a 0-car at the beginning of 80's. Later converted from Group A racing car to Group F racing car. Body has been changed at the beginning of 90's but the license plates are original.

Bottom end B23, built with good parts, balanced in the range of much below half a gram, Weber 50DCO, RR-Exhaust, 2.5" Simmons, big Getrag recently repaired with short first gear, Dana 4.88, LSD with aluminium shell, half shafts from Porsche, Bilstein suspension, rollcage, Body painted at the dealer, 99% rust free, last raced in 2003 at "Orimattila Rally", car is missing: a cardan axle(old parts come with the car), seats and head from the engine.

Car is sold if the price high enough is paid. Don't sell for a price of Escort rally car because those can be always found but these can't.

And it's street legal.

Drivlina/Växellåda / Re:360 LSD?
« skrivet: maj 15, 2005, 01:01:47  »
I am not sure but I might have some kind of LSD too.. I noticed it at the last winter. I didn't get the car to wheelspin just on one wheel, both wheels spinned always. Same thing on gravel it always leaves two lines and compared to my fathers 360GL Turbo the diffrence is huge. When you floor it on slippery surface with GL it just starts to wheelspin on one wheel and it's difficult to get the car moving but with my GLT I get wheelspin but with both wheels and despite the wheelspin the car moves and it starts to push the rear end to the side. With GL it just spins the one wheel and stays put. :P Also when I lifted the rear end up and spinned hard one wheel with my hands, both wheels turned and there was this clicking noise. Could be wrong though but the diffrence between these cars is so huge that I think the GLT might have some kind of LSD. GL has open differential for sure.

Yup that's true if you have used mineral oils it might not be good to change to fully synthethic because all crap inside the engine gets loose. I have always used fully synthethic so now I have Mobil SuperSyn 5w-50 inside. If you want some really good (and expensive :P ) oil try Castrol TWS 10w-60. But I guess that for normal engine cheaper oils will do also. :P

« skrivet: januari 22, 2005, 20:26:45  »
Thanks! It already had a turbo in it when I bought it. With current legislation we also have a limitations to about 130hp. You are allowed to increase 20% your motor power with turbo but my car was turboed before the law was changed so those laws doesn't concern my car. We don't have torque limitations though. Only power. Turbo is marked in the registration paper and there are no power limitations marked. Just letter "A" which comes from a Finnish word "ahdettu" (turbocharged.) If I would add a turbo now I would have to dyno the car and prove that power hasn't increased more than 20% and the power would be marked to the registration paper. Of course many people run their cars with  low boost at the dyno and after it is checked by the MOT-inspector they turn the boost up.. :P Also it is kinda hard here to add a tubo in a car which is registered -92 or later because it would have to meet very strict emission standards and tests for those cost something like 1000 euros or more. :P But that's not a problem for us who are tinkering with pre -92 cars.  I don't know exactly how much it does have power because I haven't dynoed it yet. Currently it lacks a bit power because there is a major leak in exhaust manifold so it takes long to build up pressure. I have pretty much just been replacing parts and doing normal maintainance work because it seems that previous owner wasn't too interested about keeping the engine compartment clean or replacing bad wires and hoses etc... I will dyno it when I get all basic stuff in good condition and an intercooler. :P

Not available from dealer but there are occasionally some kits being sold at this finnish Volvo forum. I'm not 100% sure but I would say that exhaust manifold is same as 240 turbo exhaust manifold.

They installed here some little modified R-Sport kits on 300-series also. Our GL is R-Sport kit installed at Volvo dealer. But with Weber 32DAT turbo carburretor etc... So it differs a little from basic kit.

Text in english:

"Hollow growl of the turbo engine and a turbo badge at the tailgate. You have 40 more horsepower in your use for quick acceleration. Turbokit doesn't only mean extra speed. Exhausts sounds are more quiet and there is noticably more torque available which means that car is more powerfull. You'll be less likely to notice any decrease of acceleration with big load or when pulling a caravan. Turbo raises the max speed of Volvo to 190km/h. That is why it is necesary to also install tires with higher speed classification. Volvo has certificated turbokit to all B19A-, B21A and B23A-motors."

Thanks! Yeah that's what I also thought. My current piping goes at the front of the watercooler and there are holes cut to the metal but I guess that there's a very little chance that those holes would be at the height of standard Volvo IC piping. :P But it's good to know that the IC itself fits in. Piping can be tinkered to fit. Of course I could buy custom all aluminum IC with piping that fits but then again that would cost something like +300 euros and I'm just a student with a limited budget.. :P

First of all. Sorry to write in English but my Swedish isn't as good so it will be more understandable when I write in english I think.. :P It would be nice to have an English forum too because it seems that there's lots of info about 300-series here.

Then to the topic.. I have a -87 360GLT Turbo and it currently has no IC. I was wondering that will the standard 200/700/900-series intercooler fit in? What kind of ICs have you fitted in?
